Latest News Next Generation Classic![]() Wednesday, June 30, 2021 The annual Next Generation Classic was held this past weekend on Barkley Lake out of Prizer Point Marina and Resort. The event featured 44 teams that included an adult and young angler teaming up. It was the father and son duo of Whit and Greer Gammon that took home the title with a two-day total of 20.87lbs. Whitt and his 12-year old son Greer have been fishing USA Bassin events together since 2018 and were thrilled to get the win in this tournament. "We started fishing a few years ago and took our lumps and bumps along the way," said the elder Gammon, who is the tournament director for the NNG-01 Old Hickory Lake Next Generation Division. "We feel blessed to win this one." Coming into the event, they planned to fish docks but spent two practice days looking for something else. "We tried shallow and we tried deep," he recalled. "We didn't catch a single keeper fish in practice. That told us to stick with the dock plan." The first day they stayed in Barkley and Greer caught a quick fish on a spinnerbait before the team filled their limit flipping docks. "We had our limit by around 10:30 and I knew bites would be tough to come by," he said. "The way the lakes are fishing now you only get so many bites, so we came in early and sat in the shade for the last hour and a half." They led the first day by over three pounds with a solid 15.13lb limit that included the tournament's big bass, a 5.55lb fish caught by Greer. With the lead they knew had a good shot to win if they could secure another limit. "The second day we fished the same stuff and also made it into Kentucky Lake," he said. "We only had three fish and I thought for sure we wouldn't win it." Their 5.74lb weight was just enough for the win as they won by just .06lbs over John and Hunter Filmore. The Gammon's had a great time and the $5,000 general scholarship was icing on the cake. "The accommodations at Prizer Point were excellent and we stayed with two other families," he said. "We made a vacation out of it and had a great time." Top 5
