Waveland Lake Gives Up the Fish!

Waveland Lake Gives Up the Fish!

Sunday, July 10, 2011

Many times we wake up on a Saturday to leave for a tournament and wonder if the keeper fish will come our way. Saturday July 9th at Waveland Lake the keeper fish came to every team that fished. Twenty five USA Bassin’ teams took off from the Waveland Lake Ramp at 6:30am under the direction of Rick Ingram and when they returned all twenty five had bagged a limit of bass. A full field of boaters with limits and many anglers spoke of catching as many as 3-5 limits during the tournament. The team members and director Rick did a great job of handling the fish.
With 125 fish weighted in only one did not survive.  Waveland Lake is a reservoir, located in Montgomery county Indiana that was built for flood control in 1970. Waveland Lake is the water source for the county and drainage collection for approximately 11 square miles. The lake is owned by a conservatory and they have restricted the number of tournament entries to 25 per tournament per day.
Director Rick Ingram says he takes entries for Waveland on a first come first serve basis. Ingram says he will have USA  Bassin’ teams show up and wait at the ramp in hopes that one of the prepaid entries do not show up to fish and opens a spot.
Sunny and light winds with a few clouds were the conditions during the tournament. The fish seemed to be resting on points and breaks. During the tournament you could see several boats fishing off shore on the breaks searching for a big fish. USA Bassin team of Shawn Gregg and Mike Howell came out on top with a 17.51lb load of largemouth. Second Place and just ounces behind was Bill Fox and John Hake with 17, 20 pounds.
As the season comes to a close the Staff at Bassin wants to wish each team the best of luck in the upcoming regional’s across the country. Remember if you have acquired 250 points in any division or a combination of tournaments fished in other divisions to obtain 250 will qualify you for a regional. Regional entries will be taken soon. Contact you regional directors to find out when they will be accepting entries. A Bassin member can also fish any regional they wish as long as they have the qualifying points to do so.
As always Bassin wants to thank all of the Directors for their hard work and dedication during the 2011 season.
