Latest News Ohio River Regional![]() Monday, October 15, 2012 10/14/2012- 42 teams launched out of Cox Park on the Ohio River for the Ohio River Regional. Much of the field reported good success despite the extremely windy conditions. Tournament Director Bobby Holt added "I don't know they did it out there in the wind today, it was bad. The wind affected the fishing and even the weigh in." While wind was the story of the day, there were several respectable Ohio River limits weighed in.
Taking first was the team of Bryan and Wendell Sparks who had a limit weighing 9.39lbs. The wind took its toll on this team and they were forced to come in early since they had lost all of their trolling motor power. "We were the first team in, we came it at 1:00 and waited for the rest of the field since our batteries were dead. We caught our fish on spinnerbaits and used the wind to our advantage," added Bryan Sparks. It was the first time the team had ever fished this area of the Ohio River.
Second Place was the team of McFarlane and Carter who weighed in a limit weighing 9.12lbs.
Third Place was Gary and Stacee Edwards with a limit weighing 8.36lbs. This father/son duo utilized a variety of baits to catch their fish and went through 18 keepers to reach their total weight. "We caught them on shakyheads, Carolina-rigs and crankbaits. One they stopped biting one thing, we would switch and catch a few more from the school we found," added Gary Edwards.
The Ohio River Regional was a success with teams coming from three states to fish the event.
