The Renegade/Prowler Pitch Regional

Monday, September 30, 2013

The Renegade/Prowler Pitch Regional was held on September 29th on the Rough River out of the State Park ramp 114 boats took to the Rough River with nice weather followed by a steady rain after 10:30. Tournament Director John Newton said the fishing was generally good and there were several nice bags brought to the scales.

Taking the first place honors was the team of Gary Beauchamp and David Long who weighed in 24.04lbs and also won the big bass prize with a 7.02lb bass. For the win the team brought home a combined total of over $10,000. The first place prize was over $4,800, the big bass pot was over $600 and they were also awarded an additional $5,000 for being part of the Nitro and Tracker boats contingency program.

“We only caught six keepers all day but we didn’t lose any of them. It was just meant to be,” said Long. The team has fished this lake for years and Beauchamp lives close to the lake and considers it his home lake. “We caught all of our fish shallow in less than five feet of water, we just had to scratch it out all day. Gary caught the big one and I caught the other four,” added Long.

2nd Place was the team of Robert Gaddis Jr. and Jay Clary who had a total of 17.34lbs.

3rd Place was the father and son duo of Danny and Kevin True. The team weighed in 16.61lbs and went through a total of eight keepers throughout the day. “We were catching them all on a buzzbait in less than two feet of water in the thickest grass we can find. It was fun seeing those big ones blow up on the buzzbait,” said Kevin True.

The next season is right around the corner for this region. “Our first tournament of the season is October 13th out of this same river. We like to start our season here so the guys who fished the event can have a better idea of what to do and where to go since they just fished the regional two weeks before the event,” added John Newton.
