Latest News VA-1 DIVISION 8-3-08 RESUTLS AND INTERVIEWSFriday, August 29, 2008 The VA-1 Conrad Brothers Marine division had their last tournament on 8-3-08. The tournament had 47 boats attend Smith Mountain Lake and had to battle heavy boat traffic all day. But, that didn’t stop 12 teams from bringing in a limit.
First Place went to team Pritchett/Pritchett with a 5 bass limit of 14.54lbs. The team caught their fish by using Shakey Heads tipped with Zoom Trick worms fishing around boat docks.

A tie for Second Place went to team Gibson/Howard with a 5 bass limit of 13.22lbs. after a dead fish penalty and Team Green / Templeton also had 13.22lbs.with a 5 bass limit.
Team Gibson/Howard caught their fish on 10” worms in 17’ of water fishing schooling fish, docks and brush piles.

Team Green /Templeton caught their fish in 15-20’ of water on humps around brush piles using Texas rigged 6” Mister Twister, 8”, and 11” V&M worms in Green Pumpkin and Black.
“Fishing was hit or miss and tough. I had to work hard for the quality bites. I also had to fish by myself because my partner couldn’t make it.
“U.S.A. Bassin has a very nice setup! It was run very professionally, unlike most other tournaments. The director did a great job running it. I enjoyed fishing this division!”

Third Place and Big Fish went to team Anderson/Bauer with a 5 bass limit of 12.57lbs. and a Big Bass of 5.17lbs. The team caught their fish using Texas rigged worms in 20-25’ deep structure on creek channels. The big fish came off a dock on a Spro Little John crankbait that was modified to be like a swim bait.

Jr. Angler Big Bass winner went to 12 year old Ryan Christ with a 3.49lb smallmouth. He also caught another fish to make a two fish total of 5.73lbs. Conrad Brothers Marine gives $50 to the biggest bass caught by a Jr. Angler. Ryan caught his fish by using a drop shot with a Berkley 4” Red Finesse worm on humps in 20’ of water. Ryan has been fishing since he was 4 years old.

This year the VA-1 division had a 50 boat average! They look to keep the action going with a VA-2 Fall division starting on September 28, 2008 on Smith Mountain Lake that will start their 2009 season.
